MEDITATION & MINDFULNESS

The word Mindfulness: Smrti in Sanskrit or Sati in Pali means remembering. The spiritual path is a path of remembering to bring our heart back to the present moment.

In meditation we are cultivating our capacity for intimacy with, or non-separation from what arises in our heart-mind moment by moment, breath by breath. We can only make wholesome choices about things we are conscious about. What remains hidden is impossible to work with, which is why Mindfulness is the foundational quality for any spiritual practice. With Mindfulness in the foreground we can attend skilfully to other aspects of our life.

This is why I consider Mindfulness the most central aspect of any formal or informal practice. Formal - as in Meditation, Asana, Pranayama… or informal - what happens beyond our yoga mat or zafu. Understanding that the line we draw between the two: formal vs informal practice, will always remain arbitrary and dissolves gradually as practice deepens.

All of my teachings are deeply rooted in both formal and informal Mindfulness as the very ground for the path of awakening.
